Northwest Termite and Pest Control, Inc.  Santa Rosa, CA  

Owner:  Bill Mashek

Bill Mashek’s first pursuit started as a river guide on the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon when he was 17.  From there he worked and ran rivers all over the world.  Rubicon Whitewater Adventures began in the early 1970s and is still going strong today.  He was an early member of "Friends of the River" and very active with river politics and environmental issues.

Bill has an active history for environmental involvement.  He currently serves on the board with the Bay area storm water project, is a science diver for “Reef Check” Foundation, and is a member of the American Academy of Under Water Sciences, and America Outdoors.

Bill also has maintained certifications as an EMT, CPR and First Aid Instructor, Naui Master Diver Swiftwater Rescue, Whitewater Instructor and maintains his CA Teaching credential.

Bill likes surfing, whitewater sports, stand up paddle surfing, kayaking, diving-free and scuba, yoga, zumba, and swimming.

So why did Bill Mashek Start Northwest Termite and Pest Control, Inc.?

Bill got his biology degree from Dominican University.  His interests were in insect biology.  This evolved to termite work in 1984.  Bill’s background is science based and has always leaned towards environmental. 

Bill found his niche in Integrated Pest Management and completed a year-long graduate certificate in Urban Entomology and Integrated Pest Management from Purdue University distance education in 1998.

Northwest Termite and Pest Control is currently a family run operation that started in 1968.  After working there for 2 years, Bill and his business partner Cathy Hand purchased the company in the mid 90s.  “We are still a small family run operation in addition to being a socially and environmentally responsible company.  We have always been a leader in real estate inspections, IPM technology and "green" pest management.   We are also nice folks.” said Bill Mashek.

What does Bill Mashek care about most?

Nothing means more to Bill than his family.  They have traveled together, backed packed together, and have been on innumerable, river trips together.  Bill and his son have spent countless years surfing together, on trips and “surfaries” down the California coast, Mexico and Costa Rica. “With my daughter Jenna, I think I went to more “Hansen” concerts than Jimmy Hendricks concerts”.   “We are a tight family that still likes to do things as family.  Both my wife and I are social people and have a preponderance of close friends that we have had for many years.” said Bill. 

What makes Bill Mashek get up and go to work every day?

Bill Mashek loves his work, and enjoys people.  Bill likes to have fun and be in a different place every day.  “Pest control is problem solving.  San Francisco Bay Area is a unique geography of world class universities, home to Silicon Valley and an incredible amount of highly intelligent people.  This makes the work I do incredibly challenging and highly satisfying.  I also enjoy meeting new and interesting people every day.” Said Bill.
